Janie W asked:

I have really bad breath. I brush my teeth for 3 minutes twice a day and floss, then rinse. My dentist said i do a really good job of keeping my whole mouth clean (cheeks, tongue etc.), but my breath is so bad even I can smell it! I’ve read online to breath in your pets face and see what they do to test how bad it is, this was insulting: my cat closed one eye, started twitching, then put her paws over my mouth! HELP ME! BTW I’M ONLY 13!!

Halitosis- How to Tell Someone They Have Bad Breath

Posted by admin under Uncategorized
Kelvin Ho asked:

If you are curious as to how to tell someone they have bad breath, it is good to take a minute and consider how you will go about doing that. Just blurting it out bluntly and rudely is probably only going to hurt their feelings. However, there are some things we can suggest for your considerations so that you do not need to continue to suffer in silence.

How to Tell Someone When You Work With Them

Whether it is a coworker or your supervisor, you need to be very delicate and professional when you approach this matter. Do not just blurt it out, and do not make unprofessional jokes either. Remain respectful and just mention it when you have some private time with them. Ensure that there are no prying ears when you break the news to them.

One thing that helps is to mention that you are concerned with how customers or other coworkers might think. It may not be appreciated by your customers if they notice the problem as well. This way it does not seem as if you are the one with the complaint.

How to Tell Someone When You Live With Them

Regardless of your relationship, this person is not going to like hearing that they have bad breath. Everyone wants to feel attractive to the person they are in a relationship with, even if they have been married for decades. Be nice and polite, and simply mention that you have noticed a problem. If it is just during a particular time, such as at night after dinner, you can make mention of that and perhaps suggest they brush their teeth earlier in the evening.

How to Tell Someone When It is a Friend

Your friends are much the same way - they are not going to like hearing about it. But you can approach them nicely and just mention it casually.

When considering how to tell someone they have bad breath, regardless of who they are and what your relationship is, you might to remember the old “golden rule,” that is, to treat people the way you would want to be treated. You would not want someone to be loud and rude and blunt about it, or to mention it in front of others, or to tease you about it. By putting yourself in their place, you can better decide how to tell someone they have bad breath regardless of who they are or how well you know them.
