Tonight my 8 mo old son had bad breath. Can I brush his mouth even though he has no teeth?

He has a little tiny nub where a tooth is attempting to appear. Other than that, there is absolutely nothing in there except gums and a tongue. :) Can I brush his mouth? If so, what can I use?

  1. Alyssa's mommy Says:

You can wipe his mouth down with a washcloth, or they sell baby gum brushes that go on the tip of your finger.

  2. NY_Attitude Says:

Sure…they have training toothpaste- look in the dental aisle- you’ll find it near the bottom shelves. Put a dab on your finger and rub it on his gums.

    Good luck!

  3. Rocky Raccoon Says:

use a piece of gauze wrapped around your finger to clean his gums/mouth.

Do not use toothpaste, just moisten the gauze with water. It will be fine for now.

They make toothbrushes for babies. It cleans teeth and gums without the use of fluoride. Just go to the baby isle. Look for Baby Orajel tooth and gum paste. They have different varieties.

You should be wiping a baby’s gums down at least 1x a day, starting as a newborn. They sell gum brushes that you wear on a finger, or you can use a washcloth with warm water. Teeth can rot before they even pop out, because sugar and bacteria are soaked into the gums and go down to where the teeth are.

Use a wipe cloth with the tiniest dab of babies tooth paste (I use colgate).
The wipe across the gums and tongue. Should help heaps.

Yes. You can gently brush his gums and tongue with a soft brush. There is toothpaste for young kids, since toothpaste you should avoid swallowing adult toothpaste.
