First you need to know what’s causing the bad breath. That means an examination by the vet.

No pill on earth is going to solve the problem if your dog has a rotten tooth.

Umm.. you gave your dog a pill that wasnt recommended by a vet? Never do that again.

Get an enzyme based toothpaste along with a finger toothbrush. Make sure the toothpaste has some sort of flavoring aswell. Place it on the brush, and while it licks it off try and brush.

If you cant brush that well dont worry, its enzyme based, so it breaks down the plaque without much brushing needed.

~ Has he been to the vet to have his teeth checked out. A lot of times bad breath in dogs is cause by a problem in the teeth or gums. Gum disease is dangerous and can cause many other problems. Have your vet check your dogs teeth to see if there is a need for a clean and polish and if any teeth or rotted and need to be pulled.

brush his teeth, approach him slowly though

Maybe you should use some treats like Breath Busters.

It sounds like he needs a dental check-up from the vet. A good teeth cleaning from the vet will help his breath and his overall health.
