you should take him or her to a groomer, they do a special mouth cleanser that freshens their mouth and cleans their teeth, i do that to my dogs, it works, its also cheep
there are special chews you can buy, there is very large dog food the vet sells that can help brush the teeth. you can start brushing the dogs teeth. depending on age, the dog can have a dental.
usually you can just get rid of it by brushing their teeth or just getting the green dog treats they have at the pet store which have a mint flavor to them and it gets rid of it RIGHT away…..but be careful because bad breath can also be a sign of gingivitis, and other oral diseases in animals….This can be dangerous and can potentially threaten an animal’s life. Good Luck !
You should take him to the vet if this is a chronic problem, comes back no matter what “minty” chews you buy.
Bad breath in dogs is often a sign of dental problems like cavities, broken teeth or gum problems. Healthy dogs generally do not suffer from bad breath and “breath chews” generally only cover up a more serious issue.
By the tender age of three, more than 80 percent of dogs show signs of gum disease, according to the American Veterinarian Dental Society. It’s no surprise, then, to learn that two-thirds of dog owners aren’t giving their pets the recommended dental care.

In order to get rid of dog bad breath you need to understand where it comes from. Dogs like human get bad breath from the top of the tongue where bacteria grow and produce sulfur containing compounds that smell, that is bad breath. Some bad breath can come from smelly foods, like garlic, which stick on the top of the tongue and smell, but most bad breath comes from bacteria. Mints, gums, etc., only cover up bad breath for a short time. The cure for bad breath is to remove the bacteria from the top of the tongue. This is best done with a tongue cleaner. Use one that has both a brush and a scraper because they really remove the bacteria. Learn more about the cause and cure of bad breath at

Regular dental care
Regular tooth brushing
Healthy diet
Constant supply of fresh water
Vet visit to ensure no underlying illness
Feed a quality food
Personally, I avoid commercial treats, including minty bones. You can make your own treats easily at home, and simply add some parsley.
