Is it possible that mouthwash is making my breath worse?

bad breath
abc asked:

I’ve noticed that everytime I remember to use mouthwash, I end up with bad breath a few hours later or the next day. Is this possible or am I imagining things? It is an anti-bacterial, alcohol-free mouthwash.

My theory is that the good-bacteria in my mouth are being killed and the bad-breath-bacteria are being left, making it worse. Is that a possibility?

Get a stronger mouthwash. You should also try keeping it in your mouth before rinsing for at least 30 seconds.

well it might be the certain kind of mouthwash you are using. Dont buy that cheap mouthwash at stores. what u need to get is Listerine mouthwash. It makes your mouth burn real bad so you know its good mouthwash, peace

Sorry to say but that is a definite possibility. I too, was using a mouthwash that the name started with the letter “B”. It was really great but that is exactly what was happening to me. Because it was killing the good bacteria, I ended up with a yeast infection of the mouth. I used to many “anti-bacterial” things such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and was using anti-bacterial astringent on my face.

Yes it is possible. Alcohol can dry your mouth decreasing salivary flow. Brush your tongue and floss.

Your mouthwash can be contaminated with microbes like small bacterias or viruses. Do you put your mouth over the bottle to get it in your mouth?

Try switching mouthwashes. There is one that u can get from ur dentist called BreathRX. They also have gum which is awesome. hehe..i always get loads of gum when i visit my mom at the dentist office. It works really well, its a little stong, but it kills the bad breath. ALSO, use a tongue scraper. it GREATLY reduces germs and bad breath.
