Check frequency of his bowel movements; bad breath is sometimes the result of constipation.

It could be enlarged tonsils. The food get stuck back there thus the smell. When brushing and tongue scraping does not seem to work this could be the culprit. My son had that as well.

I just started taking my daughter to the dentist . Pediatricians actually recommend that you take them when they are two years old, but she had inner ear problems so I waited until 3. His stomach may be upset and that could be causing the bad breath.

this may sound silly, but make sure he hasn’t put any food up his nose. Kids that age are known for doing so!

I am serious here, so no thumbs down.
My friend’s son had the same problem and she tried everything. She finally took him to the doctor and her son had put an entire Kleenex up his nose which went into his nasal cavity and was decomposing and causing his rank breath.
You might want to schedule an appointment with the pediatrician to rule something like that out…

Breath had lot more to do with diet than only with teeth. Perhaps try feeding your child different food to see if anything changes. Also, make sure he/she is drinking enough non-sugared liquids. Stress is also a big contributor to halitosis.

Try the pediatrician as well. There are many things that can cause it. Tonsils….teeth….ears….colds…sinus’….

Could also be strep throat. It is possible to get strep without a fever or sore throat. And be sure to brush his tongue.

My baby girl started having bad breath @ that same age, just last year. Her throat all of a sudden stayed sore and she couldnt even get over a basic cold. Come to find out my babys tonsil were almost the size of walnuts!@! I had those nasty things removed and she hasnt been better. Her breath smells sooo good now! U should really have his tonsils checked out by a doctor and see if they are larger than normal. That could be the problem..

Bad breath is link to not eating nutritious foods. Have your son eat nutritious foods and see if that was it.

Has your child started urinating more frequently or been excessively thirsty? Fruity, foul smelling breath is a sign of juvenile diabetes. Doctor’s can rule this out as a cause by a simple in office blood test.
Good luck

My daughter is 28-months and she has had terrible breathe for the past week. We brush her teeth everyday. We too have no idea what is causing this awful smell. She never eats junkfood or soda. In a few weeks we are taking her to the dentist to see if there is a soltuion to this problem. I would see a dentist sooner but we are military and they have to be scheduled so until then we have use Mouthwash(alcohol free!!) to wipe her entire mouth with q-tips. It works for afew hours only. If you find out anything please let me know. Thanks!!

It could be a sinus or ear infection. Take him to the doctor first.
