There are a lot of products like denta-bones and the like on the market designed to stop bad breath and they work! Also, you should brush your dog’s teeth – if it is a puppy it is a good idea to start right away! Just like a human, they need proper oral hygiene.

My dad used to clean our dog’s teeth. Also, milk bones help.

take the dog to a groomer and let them show you how to brush the dogs teeth. That may help. other than that my black lab did not appreciate normal treats when going through obedience training but she loved peppermint altoids which I ate also.

The first and most important thing to do is have a vet take a look. The dog may need a dental cleaning (they need them regulalry) and may have a dental problem or gum disease. This is the most likely cause of a bad smell like that.

Feeding dry food also helps keep teeth in better shape and prevents bad doggie breath.

Bad breath in people and dogs is caused by bacteria living in the mouth. When you brush your teeth or your dog’s teeth these bacteria numbers are reduced and your dog’s morning breath goes away.

HOWEVER, if your animal has tarter build up around the molars the bacteria here lives in large solid mass and cannot be brushed out. Animals that have cavities, gingevitis, severe inflammation and infection of the gums will also have a foul odor. In short, these problems cannot be just brushed out. In this case your animal would need a dental cleaning at the veterinarians’ office.

Additionally there is a really great prescription dog food only available at your vets office ( not avail at petco nor petsmart) its called Hills T/D that means tarter reducing diet. Both my little dogs are on it and it really reduced tarter on a daily basis!

Get your pup wormed by the vet. Make sure he’s not eating poo outside. To the “vet” before me. It’s TARTAR.
