maybe he eats his own poo

Digestive problems.. Constipation, cancer, ate something yucky… Maybe he doesn’t have bad breath, maybe it’s your breath you are smelling?

Has the vet checked out his digestive system? Or is he eating something (like stool) that you don’t know about?

The bad breath may come form the food that the dog eats the belches up and that’s what stinks. Or it may be a stomach problem.

His teeth may be ok BUT he may have gum disease. Which can lead to him having to have his teeth pulled. Or just an infection in his gums… Some vets do not notice gum disease in dogs, have your dog checked at an animal clinic/hospital. And [from experience] this will cause horrendous breath. It can be taken care of.

the tongue holds a lot of bacteria. thats why there are toothbrushes that have the tongue scraper for people. i dont know about you, but every time i (used to) brush my dogs teeth, i never brush the tongue… he hates it. he hates brushings…

For chronic bad breath charcoal can help. It is available in tablet, biscuit or powder form. Also adding digestive enzymes to the diet can help. Selected foods available from your vet which aid digestion and reduce odours will also help.
    Good luck!

if the vet says that the teeth look good, then don’t worry about the teeth. my puppy eats only dry food (best for teeth), but his breath is RANK too. and his teeth are great. we don’t know the source either. it might be the kind of food that he eats (sometimes that smells horrible too). my puppy has to be on special food, so we might have to live with the breath. i wish i knew of an answer. good luck! maybe a sprig of parsley (ask the vet first!) will help. it’s supposed to work with humans, but i don’t know if that’s harmful to dogs (always ask the vet). lord knows my puppy eats everything in sight! good luck!

    Your dog has Nutosis.

Nutosis occurs when your dog hikes his leg and licks his nuts.

Don’t give goat’s hooves or similar chew toys. experiment with the chew toys by taking them away and reintroducing them and see if the breath changes. Certain chew toys gave my dog fish breath.
