How do you politely tell someone to do something about their bad breath?

bad breath
Samantha T asked:

I have a friend that has REALLY bad breath, and I don’t know how to tell them so they don’t get their feelings hurt. Is there anything I can do to help combat the killer morning breath without hurting their feelings or do I just need to live with it?

Easy! Start offering them Tic-tac. They’ll get it. It’s friendly, too.

Put yourself in their place—— how would you like to be told?
Gently. I would want to know, it could be a medical problem, dental problem, or a hygiene problem.

How about something like “as a friend, I would want you to tell me something for my own good, and I am guessing you would want the same….right…..yes? well, your breath is noticeably bad, and I thought you should know.” Then its DONE, no more about it unless friend brings it up. No snide remarks, no jokes.

eat a mint and then offer them one. They will get the hint.

You could buy them a bottle of anti bacterial mouthwash and tell them you are using it and thought they may like to try it.

Yes offer a mint. If your friend declines the offer laugh and sat “no..really have a mint please” I wouldn’t be offended. That’s what friends are for!!!

I know how you feel, i had this friend all the way through HS whom had bad breathe…we just dealt with it. We offered her gum, mints ect. when we had some..but she never took any.

You can offer her some gum, mints ect. if you are chewing gum or just put a mint in. We never did bring it up to her, we didn’t know how to really…

I absolutely know what you are talking about.
The problem is internal. People who may be having diabetes or insulin resistance have this problem. The reason the mouth smells bad is due to dryness.
What you can do is just strike a conversation with her generally and tell her that you have started working out at a gym and it is helping you so much in all aspects like controlling your blood readings etc. Eventually, you can talk to her about her idea of working out. Believe me 30 minutes of treadmill and 1 gallon of water a day is what will keep the badbreath away. No matter how much mint she eats, it won’t help the situation.
    Good luck..try this out.

well just tell her “you have really bad breath” because you know what? if you dont, the person who does might be extremely cruel about it. maybe she needs to go to the dentist because she has some cavities she doesnt know about.

A friend, then offer them a piece of gum or mint.Over and over and over, they may get the hint..Good luck.(or tell them as a friend)

You say to your friend, “Hey, friend, your breath could kill my rose bush!” ” Ever heard of Mints!” That’ll do the trick!
