Bad Breath?

bad breath
Rebecca asked:

I have a 2 year old female Chow-Rotwieller mixed dog. She has very bad breath. Does anyone have any solutions for this? I have even tried the doggy mint treats, brushing her teeth, and breath pills and nothing helps. What can I do to get rid of her bad breath?

I have tried the doggy mints to and it just doesn’t work. I let me dog have a small candy cane she loved it and I loved it because it helped with her breath for a lot longer then the doggy mints

She might have gingivitis or anything like that.Consider going to your nearest vet and let him have a look. After that she will probably have a recommendation or it just might be natural.Try not to feed her a lot of treats too.

Have you tried raw hide bones? These will help remove tarter and build up on your dogs teeth.

You can purchase these green bones called “greenies” at the pet store. They’re really good at freshing breath and cleaning teeth. They’re expensive but worth it!

Have you ever tried giving your dog Greenies? They work really well. I have a dog who also had really bad breath. This was the only thing that worked for her. They help to take off the plaque as well as reduce the risk of gingivitis. They aren’t bad for your dog either. Though dogs do think of them as treats. At least, mine does. So, would definitely give Greenies a try. You can find them at most pet shops. They are pretty easy to find. I would recommend giving one to your dog at least 3-4 times a week. Hope this helps!

first start with taking her to your vet. she might have something stuck in her teeth, or an abcessed tooth or something else that is the cause for her breath that requires medical attention. studies have shown that up to 80% of dogs over the age of 3 (which she is near) have some form of dental disease. dogs need regular dental cleanings just as we do. harmful bacteria and tarter will form on her teeth over time, allowing the bacteria to enter the bloodstream and can cause heart, liver and kidney failure. if your vet does not see a medical reason for the smell they can refer you to what is best to use for home dental care. good luck.

It has a lot to do with what you feed your dog. I personally feed my dogs (two rotties and a Shepperd) Pedigree dog food and meaty bone dog biscuits. In October they all got a clean bill of health from the vet…. and no stink breath!

Burt’s Bees puts out a great all natural breath drop solution. It is even safe for humans. It has worked wonders for our APBT who just seems to have bad breath more than our other 2 dogs. Greenies which work well for our other two dogs just didn’t help her at all. But look into the Burt’s Bees drops for dogs.

No never give your dog candy canesl. As a vet myself, give her a little bit of toothpaste in her mouth, and it works.

The cause for bad breath could be gingivitis, tooth abscess, upper respiratory infection, sinus drainage, a diet that doesn’t agree with her, indigestion, and/or she can be wormy. You can get to the bottom of it with a total health check up done by a vet. Once the cause it’s found, the solution will follow.

She may have excessive tartar build up on her teeth,or her gums may be infected. Or she may just have really nasty breath. My dog’s breath all smell gross, but I’m a weirdo and like the way it smells. LOL. :)

try adding parsley flakes to the food. It’s a herb that combat bad breath.

give a greenie or boneamint or etc, everyday (must supervise to make sure it doesn’t chew off big chunks) for a week.

if it doesn’t work, bring to the vet. your dog might have some inner organ problems.
