Take a mint and politely offer them one at the start of every conversation. If they refuse, I would try to subtley urge them (like you do when someone needs a tissue and doesn’t know it).

    Peace

  2. annc Says:

you just be polite and quietly and patiently deal with it. you can breathe through your mouth to avoid smelling it

    Hey,

I’ve had this problem of people around me having horrible breath. The best way is to descretely offer a mint. Put one in your mouth and then offer one to them. Most of the time they will take one, because someone, somewhere has told them they have bad breath.

If that doesn’t work and you don’t have the heart to tell them themself, talk to another trusted teacher to tell them.

Another thing to do is to be very subtle, but very slightly back away when they come near. It will save you the full brunt and they will eventually get the idea.

take out a box of altoids and offer him one as you take one for yourself. if he doesn’t take one, just pretend that you are really concentrated on the work and keep your head (and nose) facing down towards the desk.

  5. vinak963 Says:

get your teacher some cinnamon flavored candy as a gift or something…try gum or breathe mints
if nothing else. i always tried to avoid my teachers breathe when they got close…..they all had bad breathe.

  6. cherry Says:

well, whenever he comes over to ur table just don’t breath out of ur nose and only ur mouth.

and if that doesn’t work than just hope that he runs out of tht garlic stuff.

  7. h20andspirit Says:

Bring gum…offer it…if he says “what does my breath stink” Give him the whole pack lol

  8. Boo Says:

Give him a tic tac before you ask him questions.

  9. misschittymess Says:

I pop a piece of gum in my mouth then I give them one. Don’t give them the opportunity to reject…take the piece out for them and put it in there hand or poke it out of the foil backing and present it to them. With a smile of course.

  10. cool v Says:

Tell them, their breath is making the hair on the back of your neck stand straight up!

  11. Lunazuly Says:

Take a tic-tac and tell him: Oh excuse me but I just take my lunch, do you want some? and offer him one or two pills, be subtle and sincere.

  12. sekacity Says:

Well sometimes bad breth isn’t an indicator that they do not take care of their teeth or have an unclean mouth . Diabetes , stomach problems or a lack of saliva will cause it. They may not be aware of it but then again most are and it is a source of embarrassment. I guess placing a stick of gum on the desk or writing a respectful suggestion could help but it is still embarrassing to them to hear .
I don’t know what to say really . You can do it tactfully, you can joke about it in a friendly way ( Whoa, want some gum? ) but it isnt easy to bring up to anyone . An age old problem for sure .

  13. cuteness Says:

eww thats nasty, offer him an altoid! and then buy his some for teacher appreciation day or something!!! lol

  14. trinitybombshella Says:

If he doesn’t chew gum then you can offer him a piece of candy. That usually works.

  15. coffee4meplz Says:

Offer them a mint or stick of gum, I’ll offer and say “Please take it!” :o ) Or just step back if they step up to you step back again and dont be afraid of them noticing, hopfully they will with out you feeling you have to say anything…you dont want to offend yet their breath is offensive to you…..I’m telling you offer a mint and do it often, maybe that will give them a clue.

  16. Kimchi Says:

Take a couple of steps back.

  17. SAK Says:

    Two ways:
    1) If you have a couple of mints in your pocket, offer one to him, and put the other one in your mouth. 2) Bad breath can sometimes be caused by need of dental work to be done. If the mint idea doesn’t help, then please consider asking to tlak with the teacher “privately”, if you have a good rapport with him, maybe have one other student with you (a freind of yours, same class), and mention to the teacher your concerns about his breath, and ask him if he has been to the dentist lately, to see the condition of his teeth. Please do this with a lot of respect, and good manners. If you say it with empthy (walking a mile in his shoes) and politeness, it should go okay. That is why I suggest you take someone with you to tlak with him. I wish you the best. If , by the way, you don’t want to talk with the teacher about the dentist, leave a note for another teacher to see (unsigned) by you mentioning concerns for this teacher’s health, due to the bad breath. By the way, I once had a boss come into the office, after eating a 40 clove of garlic dinner the night before, I asked if it was onions, he told me it was garlic. He is Italian too. Must have been a really good dinner. Take care.

  18. wyomugs Says:

Those who advise to offer the teacher a mint/candy/gum and also taking one YOURSELF are correct. If the teacher obliges, that’s great… if he does not, then the mint/candy/gum that you have in YOUR mouth can help to mask his bad breath! Think about it, you smell your candy because it’s in your mouth, before you smell anything else!

  19. Linniepinkay Says:

Search the Internet for Halitosis(bad breath) print the article then mail it to him anonymously. Oh and add a couple sticks of a strong minty gum in the envelope! Hopefully he will take the hint!

  20. Gina C Says:

It is inappropriate for a grade or high school kid to be privately speaking to a teacher. It opens up questions about the morality of the teacher, even if you request that moment to speak about bad breath.

Do not explain to the teacher that he has bad breath. Unfortunately he might not take it well, and he may retaliate by offering less help or poorer grades, or influencing other teachers to consider you rude.

Leave a polite but anonomous note explaining that his breath is a problem for you in seeking his assistance. Do mention that you believe you are smelling his lunch. If he cares about his teaching, he will take care of it if he can.
Mention concern for his welbeing only if you actually do know and care about him. Your interaction has to do with teaching – keep it focused.

If you cannot get it to his desk anonomously, you can mail it to the school to his attention.

Bad breath can result from all sorts of health problems, as well as bad teeth. It is possible there is nothing he can do about a health problem, or that he cannot afford to fix his teeth. He may be perfectly aware of this problem already.

  21. Spendelicious27 Says:

Try returning the favor. Eat some Doritos, garlic, and anything else you can think of that smells really bad. Then wait and see how he responds to you when you talk. Then, do exactly what he did back to him. If he comments, say, “I’m so glad you noticed because I just didn’t know how to tell you, so, I showed you insteead!”

  22. wanzanna Says:

    heres a fun way with out hurting their feelings;
say..let’s play a game, then blind fold them and have the other students toss breath mints into their mouth.
10 points for six feet away
5 points for 3 feet away
2 points for 1 foot away

  23. fateridder Says:

I used to put cologne right above my upper lip below my nostrils because I hated the dirty kids who smelled like BO it was nasty to me but my method worked .

  24. tika Says:

Go to Sam’s club and buy him a big box of mints.

  25. GoPumpkinLOL Says:

Make a comment like , “So you like to eat a lot of garlic, they say it’s good for your heart. I would eat a lot more, but I’m afraid it will cause my breath to reek.”
