Why does one retain bad breath even after using listerine, and brushing for several minutes? ?

The bad breath of a friend of mine develops more into the day… in the morning, it’s fine, but I eat exactly what he eats, (milk maybe? school cafeteria food). But I don’t get bad breath.. any support?

Sometimes bad breath begins in the digestive tract, not the mouth.

It’s because the stench comes from something rotten in your gut, not your mouth.

It could be a medical issue. I have a few family members who have been diagnosed with stomach acid reflux. One of their symptoms before diagnosis was bad breath.

Bad breath very rarely comes from the stomach. However, yes its true it could be originating from gastric reflux. The most likely cause is plague. Make sure your friend is bushing after meals if possible. If he can’t then atleast twice a day. Do not use listerine, it has alcohol in it and the alcohol has a tendency to dry the mouth out. Make sure he bushing the gums and tongue (prefer use a tonge scraper). Drink plenty of water to keep the mouth moist. Plague thrives in dry mouths. Your friend should avoid heavy sugary dairy products. Make sure he’s visiting the dentist at least every 6months instead of yearly. Make sure to mention to the dentist his problem. They have many mouth rinses to help fight halitosis. Continue being a supportive friend,

Good Question! Let’s start by talking about the cause of bad breath. Up to 90 percent of bad breath comes from the top of the tongue where bacteria grow and produce sulfur containing compounds that smell, that’s bad breath. Mints, mouthwash, gum, etc., just cover up the bad breath for a short time. To cure bad breath you need to remove the bacteria that produce it by cleaning the top of the tongue. This is best done with OraBrush tongue cleaner because it has individual, flexible, pointed, soft bristles much like a surgeon’s scrub brush. Cleaning with OraBrush will eliminate bad breath for up to 12 hours. Learn more about the cause and cure of bad breath at:
