How can you tell a co-worker he has bad breath without offending him?

bad breath
powerdiva411 asked:

Hey Everyone, so here’s the deal. It appears my co-worker has started taking those garlic vitamins or something like that, since it has been about two weeks that he’s had the worst breath! He comes to the room and the entire room smells like garlic until the doors are open. It is soo bad that I’ve felt the urge to mention it to him. The thing is I am really worried about hurting his feelings, but it is very bad. Any wise person that can help????

Give yourself a piece of gum and offer him one when he sees you about to chew gum!

  2. Terri Says:

offer him a mint every day he’ll get the hint.

I guess you already tried offering him a gum or tik-tak… You should tell him after your lunch that you have eaten too much garlic and that you have a bad breath and ask him what you should do (like : “I don’t have any gum with me”, help!!!) and then if he doesn’t say anything go buy a pack of gum or something like that!!

Leave breath mints on his desk and hope he takes the hint.

    But seriously,
Pull him aside and kindly tell him that you are saying this to spare him from rude and negative remarks and let him know that his breath has not been the freshest the past two weeks. And tell him, that if it was you in the same situation, you would hope that some one would have the courage to tell you as a friend.

Get gum and put it in your drawer. While you are talking with him, take a piece out, and put it in your mouth, and then ask him if he wants a piece. He may say “Why, do I have bad breath?” and of course you say “Oh, no, not at all, I am just offering you some gum” but deep inside you’re thinking “hell yeah your breath is KICKIN!” He might get the hint if you offer him gum several times. LOL

I think its better you tell him gently and directly the problem. If he is an equilibrated person he is gonna tell you thanks cause some way you protect him! Telling thinks directly and with the appropriated gentle attitude is the best and the most honest way to behave i think…

I applaud you for not wanting to hurt his feelings so either suggest nicely that he try the no odor garlic, or just say you have real bad breath and I am only telling you because you are my friend, or pop a breath mint into your mouth offer him one if he refuses say you kind of need it, your breath makes me want to eat spaghetti, he should get the point.

Acquire an ordinary brown bag, the kind you would use if you were bringing your lunch to work. Write his name on the outside of it. Inside the bag place a travel-sized toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste, dental floss, chewing gum and breath mints. Enclose an unsigned note explaining that you don’t want to offend him but that he might find these items useful. Better yet, sign the note “The Tooth Fairy”. Place the bag in his cubicle while no one else is around so that the gift can be truly anonymous. I had to do this once and it worked very well. No one was embarrassed and the problem was solved.
