    heat makes it stink

Because bad breath is mainly caused by all the bacteria that are living in your mouth, and when you add more hot water to the mix, lots of those bacteria will move around and mix with the hot water, and you will taste it. Think about brushing your teeth, what do you taste? The toothpaste right? Try brushing your teeth without toothpaste and see what happens.
