Have you tried brushing his teeth on a daily basis?
What’s making his breath stink is probably what makes you wake up with morning breathe. Left over food, plaque and bacteria, only alot more than what accumulates overnight.

He might need a dental cleaning at the vets. When enough tartar builds up on a dog’s teeth, it can lead to periodontal disease, bacteria, infection–all create the bad breath.
If your dog’s teeth & gums are healthy and not in need of a dental, try gradually switching to a new food, see if that helps. And regular brushing with dog toothpaste, not human toothpaste. Good luck.

He could have a mouth problem, i.e an ulcer, rotting teeth etc so if it does not go away, please contact the vet.
However for now try brushing his teeth with meat flavoured tooth paste, or try rusks and denta-chews, or greenies.
A vet can perform a professional treatment.
You can also buy breath spray/mints etc but if it still persists it’s probably an underlying problem.

First thing is to have him checked by a vet for an oral infection. These are very common in dogs and the primary cause of halitosis. Gum disease, believe it or not, can lead to death because the infection spreads to other organs.
Have your dog’s teeth checked, then have them cleaned if needed, then get him on a daily oral care regimen such as daily brushing ONLY with dog tooth paste (human toothpaste is poisonous if swallowed), chewing raw beef knuckle bones once a week, daily tartar treats, and an antibacterial oral hygiene rinse. Sounds like a lot, but it’s pretty easy once you’re in the hang of it. I do it for four.

go to petco or petsmart or pet supplies plus they have a little secition full of different breath mints, sprays, bones and all other stuff. Also try getting his teeth cleaned by a vet if it doesnt go away
