Can anything be done about my dog’s bad breath?

It seems like every dog I’ve ever had has really bad breath. I have a 5 month old cocker spaniel puppy and now her breath is starting to smell. I’ve had her teeth cleaned before but it seems like it just comes back. Does anyone know what can help?

There are treats and even breath mints for dogs now. Try this and give your dog regular dental care. They even have stuff you can mix with their food.

In general, even dogs with healthy teeth and gums don’t have “good” smelling breath, but you can prevent it from becoming very bad. You can’t just “have her teeth cleaned” and stop there. Buy a dog tooth brush for her and some cleansing solution made for dogs and brush her teeth 1-3 times a week. Get her teeth cleaned by a vet once or twice a year. Buy her chew treats and toys that are specially made for breath and teeth health. Some dogs inevitably have problems within their mouths that you simply cannot prevent, however, most canine dental issues CAN be prevented much easier than they are treated down the road.

I would ask my Vet. Since you have a puppy I would be careful with some of the products that the bigger dogs can use for bad breath. Puppies loose their baby teeth so it should not have any teeth that are bad which would or can cause bad breath.

We keep our dog’s breath clean. We have mint dog toothpaste and a toothbrush which we try to use often. It will help prevent tooth infections as well. We also use toothpicks to remove chunks of food caught in her teeth.

you could bring your dog to the vet…in that way an experienced person can look at your dog or dogs

You have a lot of answers…already…
Just one thing… make sure doggie drinks a lot of water everyday…
Give him a raw bone to chew or raw chicken wings,,,,
or raw chicken neck…
Good luck…!!

I hink you can buy doggie mints that are shaped like treats from the pet store.
Also, try dentabones and also talk to your vet, as bad breath can be a sign of ilness as well

brush her teeth using a finger brush/children’s soft tooth brush or a veterinary toothbrush. use veterinary toothpaste as this doesn’t contain fluoride which can cause GI tract problems in dogs. don’t use a human toothpaste. we recommend that brushing is at least done once a week but more than this is even better. concentrate on the outer layer of the teeth we can see. its nearly impossible to get on the inner side as there usually wriggling or we risk getting bitten.
there are also a oral hygiene gel which you can buy and also dental diet biscuits are good. this food contains a biscuit shaped to brush teeth and works both mechanically and has added enzymes to prevent plaque build up.
avoid teeth treats from the store/supermarket such as pedigree dentastix for example these can be good but if given to much weight gain can be an issue. most treats such as this do conatin a high fat content.
all these can help and are good to start young to prevent oral health problems in the future.

Everyone is suggesting “cover-up” products… but not solving your problem. If you are thinking its not her teeth making her breath bad then its her food. Chances the dog food you are feeding her is high in grains..low in meat… and the food is basically fermenting ..rotting in her stomach. Dogs really can’t process grains…but processed dog food is high in this product.
Switch to a more natural food… RAW meat… like steak, chicken , lamb , deer, rabbit or basically anything like that…leave the bones in..its okay and the bad breath will disappear.

Petsmart has these treats called Greenies. They’re shaped like little toothbrushes. They clean their teeth, freshed their breath, and it’s a good chew toy.
