Yes you can brush his teeth, in fact, it’s a good idea to start them young so they get used to it! Do not use human toothpaste on him!

Go to the petstore – There are a lot of Doggie Toothpastes out there, my dogs love the Chicken Flavor. They also make doggie breath mints.

Bad breath at that age is usually caused by the food that they’re eating – Consider switching to a high quality puppy food and you’ll find that the problem subsides.

Don’t use “People” toothpaste for your puppy. There is doggy toothpaste (beef flavored), to help prevent tartar. But your puppy is so young, that should not be the issue.
The first thing I’d do is take him to the vet and find out if there is a reason for the bad breath. He could have worms (from his mother at birth), he could have a problem with his teeth (a puppy tooth that did not fall out as it should and may be decaying), or he could have a digestive problem. All of which are easily taken care of by a vet. Get a professional opinion, for the sake of the puppy.

Usually bad breath in puppies is a sign of the dog having worms. You may want to check with your veterinarian and get some worm medicene for him.

If your puppy doesn’t like having his teeth brushed, then check into getting him a dental bone or toy, we have this problem with our Beagles, but they are too old to learn to get their teeth brushed, so we give them Altoids…and we have also given them Listerine pocket pack strips…they LOVE them!
