I have two chihuahua mixes and my choodle (chi/poodle mix) has the stinkiest breath. I brush his teeth, give him bones to chew on and it still stinks very bad. Any tips? Thanks.

Have his teeth checked by a vet. Number 1 reason for terrible breath is mouth/tooth infection or abcess,,,,number two reason is stomach/digestion problems.

Take your dogs to the vet to make sure that they are healthy and they don’t have any problems with their teeth or stomach. Feed good food, plenty of fresh clean water, and brush their teeth if necessary.

Ok normally I don’t do dog questions only Cat’s but this one seamed easy to answer. Ok you should brush you dog’s teeth 2 times a day. Also use mouthwash like 1 time a week. When you brush the teeth make sure to scrub the dog’s tongue.

I don’t know if your pups will like these, but I feed my dogs green peppers, potatoe slices, carrots, apples….. they love all of these things and eating them does improve their breath, plus they get extra vitamins…. getting their teeth checked, and staying away from wet dog food (pheww…) may help as well!

Brushing teeth and giving bones are definitely good habits to keep in order to keep your dogs healthy. However, if they have really bad breath, they could need a dental cleaning. Take them to the vet so they can do a thorough cleaning like we get done… flossing, scraping off the tartar and plaque, rinsing and polishing.
Bad breath decreases by about 75% once you have a dental done. Then maintaining the beautiful teeth with regular brushing (like you already do) will keep your dog healthy.

Are there teeth covered with plaque? If they are you are using the wrong toothpaste. The best toothpaste on the market is Petzlife Gel. Place on the teeth once to twice daily, do not allow water for 30 minutes after each application. If the teeth are white I would still recommend this gel however for maintenance you will only have to do it 2-3 times a week. If the teeth are clean and the breath is still bad then you could use “Dog Smog” from Happy Tails. You spray it into the mouth and it helps with foul odors from both ends.

bad breath can be caused by
poor diet.. what are they currently eating?
Dental problems/gum disease. Look at their teeth/gums. Do the teeth have any buildup on them? Are the gums nice and pink? Are there any retained puppy teeth? Small dogs do tend to have more dental issues than larger breeds.
digestive issues can also cause bad breath. Diet and dental issues should be ruled out first.
