What can I do about my cats bad breath?
Posted by admin under Cats
Sweetask asked:
I have tried brushing his teeth with a plain toothbrush and water and that didn’t make it any better. What can I use? Is there a special cat toothpaste?
I have used the pounce treats and they havent worked either.

I have seen Cat toothpase in Petsmart stores. My daughter uses that on her cat. I have also seen liquid you add to cats water for bad breath and whiter teeth in petsmart stores for cats. Check it out.

there are cat treats called greenies. You will find them in petco or petsmart! They should help your kitty’s breath. If that doesn’t work go to your vet to have it’s teeth cleaned!

Most pet stores will have enzymatic toothpastes for cats.
Usually when a cat’s breath starts to get pretty bad it means they have gingivitis. You can take a peak into your cat’s mouth and look where the gums meet the teeth. If the gums right there are red, your cat has gingivitis. You will have to remain vigilant with the teeth cleaning for a while and get your cat back to good dental health before the smell will go away.
Most of the smell comes from the bacteria living in your cat’s mouth. There are additives to put onto their water that help kill the bacteria in your cat’s mouth without harming him. This will help get your cat’s mouth healthy more quickly too!
Getting your cat’s teeth professionally cleaned works wonders as well. I don’t recommend using anesthesia, though. I’ve heard too many horror stories.

Give kitty a saucer of Listerine twice a week.
