How do I prevent bad breath in my 14 month old?
Posted by admin under Toddler & Preschooler
thebigachiever asked:
He has 8 teeth…4 upper and 4 lower all frontal.
He’s been nibbling at most of what we the grownups eat and so we now have to brush his teeth. Because of his age, we do not use toothpaste…just a moist brush to physically remove the little food deposits here and there. I’ve noticed recently that he’s been having a slight mouth odor and I do not like this. I’d really like to know what to do to prevent this.

like mint.
cut it up and put it in or on top of something.

Try Baby Orajel toothpaste for infants or toddlers. And try not to give the baby sugary things like cookies or juice. Try giving him fresh fruit for vitamin C and avoid sugary juices. Hope that helps.

Orajel has Little Bear toothpaste for the little ones. Perfectly safe. I used it on both of my little ones. Get a nice small toothbrush and use that with the toothpaste. Any store like Wal mart has it.
A hint to save money
Every box has a coupon in it for money off. Take it out before you get to the register and use it to buy the toothpaste. Also, check their site I linked below. Send in the UPC and receipt and you get a rebate back for your purchase!

You do need to use a mild baby toothpaste to thoroughly clean.

You can use Orajel’s toddler training toothpaste with a picture of Little Bear on the front of it, it contains no fluoride. Make sure that you clean his tongue and gums too, not just his teeth.
Are you sure that he doesn’t have a cold or flu coming on? That will cause foul breath too.
Good luck!

Baby orajel toothpaste can be swollowed. It comes in a fruity flavor – not mint – but helps with hygene. It also comes with a rubber thimbol type thing for you to put on your finger and rub on his gums and teeth.

And don’t use adult toothpaste it is not good for thier teeth (enamel is different as is the toothpaste itself) as adult toothpaste is only good for..yup you guessed it adults..

Try Orajel Training Toothpaste. It’s floride free, so it’s safe to swallow and it should kill those bad germs that are giving him stinky breath.
Good luck!

The odor may not be from his teeth. May be coming from bacteria in his sinuses and tonsils. Not enough bacteria to make him sick but enough to produce that odor. My son has had this problem off and on for a few years. He is scheduled to have his tonsils removed (for severe snoring) and the ENT says this problem should disappear.
Over time, if you notice his breath gets worse right before he gets sick, you’ll know it’s this.
