can you chew some mint leaves without swallowing them without breaking the fast?
pray frequently so your mouth will always stay open
bacteria breeds in warm moist dark places.. (your mouth)
so the more your mouth is open the more cooler and lighter is is:)
buy some mint extract (from health food store) at the store and eat it when fasting is over for the day. the next day your breath will be fresher.
consuming some parsley will help. it will also help the digestive area which often times contributes to bad breath. also drinking plenty of water may help to flush away food particles and other bacterial debris in your mouth. have a good Ramadan!
edit: betel nuts would be good as well.
the bad breath of some a saim muslim is a part of paradise
First of all, why say you are a Muslim person, what has that got to do with anything?
Now, if you are talking about bad breath and that goes for anyone in the world of any religious persuasion, one reason could be you need a bowel movement (you don’t have to be a Muslim to do that)
Most people think that bad breath emanates from the mouth, but a lot of the times it comes from the stomach.
try the miswak
& its ok we all have that problem so dont take it seriously sure ur not going to kiss some 1 to be that worry 😉
so its ok
brush, brush and brush your teeth. in every salah. that helps immensely.
you could even use tooth paste as long as u don’t swallow it.
also the siwak every time i make wudhu its always in my pocket even at work.
it refreshes your mouth and mind as well.

hmm,,,I think the breath that is equal to a musk in Allahs sight is that of thirst,,,but not bad breath as we know it.
Maybe bad breath is caused from eating AT NIGHT. Try eating more fruits and less highly spiced foods.
to Allah, the breath of a fasting believer is like the smell of musk, most of the day you shouldnt have to face any situations where you would have to worry about youre breath because instead of talking to ppl like normal days, youd be reading quran and making dhikr right?? lol id not worry about it too much salams! 🙂
Bad breath occured because of either one or both the causes. First is from the mouth due to bad tooth, inflammed gums, degradation of food debris or stagnant saliva where the bacteria will multiply. Secondly is from the food you eat. Eating lots of protein especially the red meat increase the risk of bad breath. Eating vegetables and fruits reduce the risk.
How to overcome it. First is to practice as above, secondly is to rinse the mouth with plain water to bring out the accumulated saliva and third talking will produce new saliva thus indirectly rinsing the mouth.
I am lovin’ on my Miswak. It smelled funny and tasted weirder to me at first, but the taste and smell grow on you. My mouth feels so clean during the day, and when I get hungry and scrub that around the teeth a few times to distract me and to clean things up in there.
Be careful about chewing anything while you’re fasting since you’ll wind up swallowing it, and chewing sort of defeats the purpose of fasting. If you can’t chew gum, you can’t chew on mint leaves either.
But Meswak is special, makes you feel special too.
use a miswak, it has many advantages. try it coz the prophet (pbuh) also used it.you’ll get lots of reward, inshaalah.
You can brush your teeth just before beginning of fasting, and the smell of that is most loved by Allah SWT more than any other smell. Do some research inshAllah.
You are not allowed to taste things, so you can use baking soda, if you so desire but again Allah Alim and most merciful.
Keeping your gapper shut helps too, don’t eat so much spices and garlic and or onions.
I always wonder why they eat so much garlic in this time when its the root cause of much bad breath. Brushing your teeth through the nighttime also helps 2 or 3 times before fasting.
i know what u mean about the breath becoming stale
my sister believe it or not takes her toothbrush to work and brushes before dhuhr prayers because thats the only way around it
are we allowed to use mouthwash whilst fasting? would be helpful if we could rinse
Salaam.
Good question.
Here are my tips:
– Get a good soft tooth brush.
– Floss regularly.
– Use a herbal / Vegetarian based toothpaste.
– When you brush your teeth you should also gently brush ALL of the inside of your mouth – so brush the roof of your mouth, the gums, inside cheeks.
– GET A TONGUE SCRAPER, I REPEAT GET A TONGUE SCRAPER. This is an invaluable tool in keeping your mouth fresh. Your tongue is like a carpet and can store a lot of decaying particles and bacteria. You can get a tongue scraper from supermarkets and pharmacies such a boots, there are loads out there –
It just takes a few seconds to scrape your tongue. BE GENTLE and you might be surprised to see how much gunk comes off it!
– Use a non-alcohol based, sugerfree mouthwash. The best mouthwash I have found and use (mashallah) is called Retardex. It’s really great. It’s clorine based, tasteless and works great. I would really recommend Retardex to anyone looking for fresh breath all day long (PS I dont work for Retar Dex 😉 ) – Make sure you gargle the back of your throat.
It’s relatively expensive mind you – but hey WELL WORTH IT.
– Also gargle regulary with warm salty (saline) water. Saline is a good natural disinfectant. I think it’s a good idea to alternate gargling with saline and a good mouthwash like Retardex. ( Just keep a small cannister of normal salt in the bathroom – I simply put a few pinches of salt on my cupped palm, added some water then slurp it up and gargle it – SIMPLE!)
– Get your teeth checked by a dentist. You might have a bad tooth that is causing a smell.
– Last but not least ask Allah the Benificent, the Helper and Kind to keep your breath fresh.
May Allah give fresh breath to all the Muslims. Amen
Hope this helps inshallah
