It’s called a hot totty, it is 1 or 2 shots of brandyw/ tea and lemon, it should be the same temp as a cup of hot tea. Hot totty for the body, works everytime!
Zinc, Echinacea and Vitamin C help.
Also Garlic is a natural antiviral and antibacterial that will help you to kill off the cold virus.
Usually you just have to let a virus run it’s course though.
1. hot tea
2. vitamine C (orange, lemonade…)
3. garlic
My mom used on us growing up:
boil water
drop in soon full of Vick’s Vapor Rub
let the water cool so you do not burn your face
put a towel over your head while you are over the pot
breath in the fumes
Make sure you do not go outside within tow or three hours after because it will open all of your breathing passages.
No cure, just management of the cold. Chicken soup made from boiling a piece of raw chicken meat(with bone) in with a small handful of rice and veges, boil it at a low simmer and cook it till the meat falls off the bone easily. It will aid in clearing the sinuses. Don’t bother with those package deals – they just have alot of salt and spices, I think the chicken might have walked thru the mix and got a toe wet.
A common cold has to ride out, but here are a few things that would help.
They don’t know why, it is said that chicken noodle soup or chicken broth helps recovery.
Teas with honey can also help.
My favorite, but worst taste? Zicam for colds. It comes in sprays, nasal sprays, and pills. It works fast! I was better in about two days. It did not come back either!
Get well soon.
There is no “cure”. The “common cold” is actually a catch phrase for a family of several hundred viruses with similar symptoms (which is part of why it’s so common!).
The best you can do is (1) treat the symptoms you have; (2) avoid catching something else while you’re weakened.
I’ve found lemon and licorice (real licorice, not the black and red candies) to help, as well as plenty of liquids and bed rest. Hot liquids help my throat and sinuses more than cool, but even cold water is much better than nothing. Lemon and licorice teas are high on my list.
A hot toddy provides temporary relief, and the alcohol can help induce sleep, but it’s not as efficacious as other things. That said, I make mine with 2 cups of boiling water (standard mug of tea in our house), used to brew your tea of choice (licorice and lemon-ginger are popular; orange spice also works well, but contains caffeine due to the black tea). Once the tea is brewed, add 1 teaspoon of ReaLemon, 1 shot of brandy or rum, and a teaspoon of honey. If you’re being conscientious, leave out the brandy — the flavor is still almost as full, and it’s more healthful.
If you suffer from a dry throat, try a vaporizer in your room. If you have a sore throat, such on zinc losenges ad libido. If you have a cough, use an OTC cough suppressant.
Keep eating healthful foods. If you’re stomach won’t take as much of your usual diet, you can back off to the BRAT (bananas / rice / apple sauce / tea-toast) diet for a day or two, although this doesn’t provide protein.
To answer the earlier comments on chicken soup — the stereotypical home-made chicken soup (esp. with noodles) contains an excellent balance of nutrients, liquid and salt to replenish the body’s losses from illness. Many canned soups contain far too much salt, leaving the body with a sodium overload at a vulnerable time. For my family, I boil half a chicken in a pot until the meat starts falling off the bones. Remove the bones and all large chucks of meat, let them cool enough to handle, and then cut the meat into smaller chucks. Return it to the pot with sliced carrots, plus small amounts of salt & pepper, just enough to keep the flavor from being boring. Make noodles separately (if you toss them into the soup, they’ll get mushy in a couple of days). Bring the soup back to a full boil. When the carrots are cooked enough for your taste, turn off the heat and serve (combining noodles and soup in each bowl).
Practice standard safety procedures: guard your coughs and sneezes, wash your hands and body regularly, etc.
You won’t recover from the cold any faster, but you’ll feel better while you’re recovering, and you’ll lower your chances of catching something else.
No cures available. Take Rx that will reduce or eliminate the discomfort of the symptoms. The life cycle for a common cold is 7 days.
