Carole asked:
He isn’t particularly well liked at work, but he is a supervisor. I would want to be told if I had the problem. Since no one here likes him much, its kind of a funny thing to bag on him for. He is a supervisor too, so I am afraid to bring it up. He may take it as disrespect or an attempt to embarass him.

just tell him
email him anamously
I guess you can start offering him gum or breath mints on a regular basis. If he likes them, then offer him to keep them. He might start chewing minty gum on a regular basis and that’ll help his breath.
I wouldn’t bring it up being that he’s a supervisor and not one really likes him. You don’t want to look like the bad guy.
Level the playing field: ask him to reciprocate with a habit of yours….excessive flatulence or something common.
That way no feelings are hurt.
well you could ask him if he wants a piece of gum and if he says no then just ask him to try it and it must be mint gum then he’ll go to the store and start buying it.
If he’s a supervisor, then he’s not a co-worker. Don’t tell him, just ignore it. He may have a medical condition that produces it. He may be another ethnic group where the diet produces what you think is bad breath and doesn’t think he has bad breath. Why isn’t he liked? Maybe he doesn’t take criticism from inferiors very well and will get revenge.
offer him mints!
