  1. it could possibly be the food you are feeding it. Try changing the cats food.

  2. Those two ailments are possibilites, but your cats may have little kitty cavities.

  3. Cats don’t get cavities like you or I do. They DO get gingivitis and periodontal disease, and something called resorptive lesions that eventually cause tooth loss. Those are very painful and definitely need veterinary care. You may not actually see anything, and the vet might not see much until s/he does a dental cleaning and exam under general anesthesia. Anesthesia is necessary because cats and dogs won’t hold still for us to thoroughly examine the mouth and treat problems.

However, bad breath can be caused by many things. Cancers, GI problems, and many other problems can cause bad breath. See your vet right away– some of these things can get much worse very quickly. If it is periodontal disease, it’s VERY important to have that treated. The germs in the mouth can and will enter the bloodstream and migrate to other organs. Over time, this can lead to kidney failure, heart disease, liver problems and even brain infections in some cases. If it’s something else, a minor problem, taking care of it will make it more fun to snuggle with your kitty and improve the relationship between your family and your cat.

See a vet. Don’t rely on message boards like this one or any other. Your cat is depending on you!

  4. We lost a cat 2 years ago because of a bad tooth and a urinary tract infection which caused bad breath. DO NOT WAIT TOO LONG!! Our pets are part of the family and losing them is like losing a part of yourself. If we had taken him in earlier, he would still be with us.

  5. All animals have bad breath because they lick their butts and their you know whats.
