I work with a dude who is likabale, smart and well liked on the job, here’s the problem… he has severe halitosis! The kind where it smells like he’s been eating sewage, or hasn’t brushed in weeks. He likes to get real close and up in your face when he talks to you and everyone avoids him when they can. He is either blind or just ain’t getting it, becasue he doesn’t seem to notice how people react when he talks. I don’t think he notices his breath either!
We went to the boss with this, but he told us to deal with the guy, we were the ones having the problem! We don’t want to hurt the guys feelings, but somethings gotta give! We work in a mailroom environment and we are near the baasement, where there aren’t many windows, and when this guy talks, his breath fills up the whole area!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

offer him a stick of gum or a breath mint or something. but dont be rude about it
offer them gum every chance you get.
if he’s a really nice guy though you should tell him. he’ll probally be a little embarresed but thankful that someone told him he had a problem.
go to HR. technically, someone like that is making it difficult to work with him and someone needs to tell him.
best answer is to offer him gum everytime you get around him.
Get some cool type of gum or mints or listerine patches or something and offer them to him
He probably is clueless. Tell him about it. Otherwise you might be stuck in that situation for a long time. There’s always the, “Hey! Would you like to try these new tictacs?”
Carry a stash of sugar-free mints and gum. Breath-Savers, Ice Breakers, Orbit, Trident, Dentyne Ice. NOT altoids or candy mints because once they wear off – your breath reeks again. Offer him a mint or stick of gum when he’s nearby.
IF he refuses, be very polite, but tell him, “you really need one”.
For $2, it’s worth it not to have to smell his breath. This is probably the easiest, least hurtful tactic i know.
how about a gift, a cute and small basket of stuff like listerine or any similar products from a ‘secret admire’…
with a cute meaningful notes with some sarcastic message…
it will make him excited but in the same time the gift would make him realize how bad his breath are…erm…u should give it a try…gud luck!!
oh my gosh! that’s so gross! i had a friend like that too. I would say to offer him mints and gums but i mean you like the guy so.. i guess.. tell him! i know it’s rude but like wouldn’t you want someone to tell you??? i’m sorry!!!
when he’s talking to you, pop a piece of gum in your mouth, and be like, “hey, you want one?”
The truth always hurt. Tell him the truth, though it’s so hard to pursue such thing but if you love your friend and you don’t like him to be embarassed with others..you must tell him what’s wrong in a gentle and friendly manners that can’t hurt him.
If he is standing, sit down, if he is sitting stand up. if your walking, keep taking left turns. I knew a forman who had terrible breath caused from a blood sugar problem. I just told him, man Terry, your breath is awful and would put my two index fingers in front of my face like a cross to wart off a vampire. He would laugh and step back. Having some breath mints in your pocket and left laying around in areas he can grab are helpful also.
