I suffer from chronic halitosis, very chronic. i’ve tried Breath Rx, Smart Mouth, and i’m currently testing the TheraBreath system. None of these have proved to cure my halitosis. I spend 10 minutes brushing my teeth, twice a day, beginning with scraping my tongue with a larger tongue scraper, then a small scraper provided in the TheraBreath starter kit, with TheraBreath toothpaste on it. I then brush my teeth, brushing my teeth, gums, cheeks, top of my mouth, and lastly, my tongue. I then rinse with the oral rinse provided by TheraBreath, and gargle with the ActivOxygen rinse. I use the extinguisher spray, nasal spray, and extra strength drops on the back of my tongue. As I brush my teeth, there is a very large quantity of mucus formed. I figured that because of this symptom, my bad breath was due to post nasal drip. However, that does not seem to be the case anymore. i’m running out of options…help! i’m only 19..this shouldn’t be!
i’ve been dealing with this problem for almost ten years now. In high school I didn’t know what to do, so I just chewed gum all the time. I still have my tonsils, but I don’t have tonsillitis. i’ve asked my dentist about it and all he suggested was possibly a gastric problem. I have excellent brushing routines, as i’ve said before. I take care of my mouth more than anyone and I still have this problem. I don’t eat spicy foods or foods with garlic just because I know it will enhance my bad breath
Joe K…i’m not sure what my breath smells like, I just know it smells. How can I tell…preferably without embarrassingly asking anyone
Help! I can’t get rid of my bad breath?
holding back breath asked:

Correctable causes of bad breath:
Dehydration. If you?re urine is dark, you?re dehydrated.
Diet. Try temporarily avoiding onions, garlic, dairy products, alcohol, and acidic beverages like coffee and OJ to attempt to lessen the stink.
Hygiene. Are you brushing at least once a day? Are you being thorough? Add mouthwash and begin brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth and see if that helps. Brush after every meal if you must.
Dieting. On a diet? Take a break for one or two days and see if the breath-stench ceases.
Prescription medication. I don?t recommend not taking your med?s, but maybe talk to your doctor or search the web for the name of your medicine and the phrase ?Bad breath? in quotes to see if there is a commonly known link.
Poor nutrition. What is your ratio of protein to carbohydrate to fat? How many refined carbohydrates (sugars and flours) have you been eating lately? Keep carbs around 50% and don?t let either fat or protein dominate the other 50%.
Home remedies for bad breath:
Hydrogen peroxide rinse – diluted to a 1.5% solution (with water) and gargled but not swallowed.
Chewing fresh parsley. Buy it at your supermarket or grow it yourself.
Drink unsweetened green tea.
Brush your teeth or use some mouthwash.
Use a tongue brush or scraper. Don?t have one? A small spoon can be substituted.
Bad breath products (mouthwashes, sprays, gums, mints and pills).
Mouth rinses containing chlorhexidine, zinc gluconate, and chlorine dioxide.
Increasing saliva by chewing something without sugar or gently pressing on your tongue with your teeth to mimic the action of chewing.
If you still have your tonsils, they could be infected giving you the bad breath. You didn’t mention if this has been an ongoing thing. Also if you eat a lot of garlic or other spicy foods it could cause this. Have you checked with a dentist? Bad teeth causes bad breath also.
i had breath that smelled like fart and i tried everything to get rid of it. i tried all types of mouthwash, gums, chlorophyll, dentist, and even ENT. ANd they all did not seem to help except probably putting me at risk for health problem later on in my life thanks to three months on nexium when i didn’t have have any acid reflux. But the ENT persited it was probably due to redness he saw in theback of my throat. then after eight years of pure hell and embarassment i tried researching and found out that there are people who are out there that have the same problem. one person with fecal breath odor tried probiotic and it worked for him. so tried it very recently and results seem promising. You din’t tell what kind of smell is your breath. if it is fecal/fart smell then try taking probiotics. it’s working somewhat for me as i only taken it for a few days.
You are very persistant, which is very good. The best advice I can give you is to keep searching. You need to know that bad breath can be measured using a halimeter. We have found that every person has some amount of bad breath, but that very few people can smell their own bad breath. Up to 90 percent of bad breath comes from the bacteria that grows on the top of your tongue, especially in the back of the tongue. Bad breath can be controlled if all of the bacteria is remove by regularly cleaning the tongue. You also need to understand that a toothbrush or a scraper will not remove all of the bacteria because these devices just take off the top of the bacteria. The tongue has deep indentations where bacteria “hid” and grow. OraBrush is designed to reach down into these indentations and remove the bacteria. You can see a picture and a demonistration of these at. You can also learn much more abut the cause and cure of bad breath at this same website: We have witnessed many people cure their bad breath.
