Just recently my dog (he is a pug) has been having really bad breath. It almost smells like fish. He keeps licking his nose like he has something in his mouth or like he just ate something. Last night it looked like pus coming from his mouth when he was drooling. It might not have been from him though because it was only a tiny bit, but I looked and there arent any abcesses in his mouth and his teeth look fine. I really don’t have money to take him to the vet. Its been hot here these past few days so hes been a bit lathergic and he hasnt been eating as much. Could it be keytones like when humans are hungry?
Any advice is great
Brush his teeth! Simple, very simple. Make him eat something that doesnt smell bad. Smelly food- smelly dog. I hope it helps.
Almost certainly he has peridontal disease (infected gums) you cant always see it, because it is below the gum line – if you want your dog to live, he must go to a vet for teeth cleaning and possibly extractions…foul breath is just the tip of the iceberg.
First of all..You shouldn’t own a pet if you can’t afford to take it to the vet when needed… Plain and simple as that..Would you go to the doc if you had horrible unexplained breath and what appered to be pus??
All dogs have bad breath at times.. Are you brushing his teeth or providing dental chews for him??
Talk to your regular vet, about credit, and let him take a look at him.

you can get toys that freshen there breath from anywhere they sell dog toys
there is a possible gum rot happening because he has no oral hygene. (no offence)
brush his teeth A LOT and give him some medicine…. i think its called tropical medicine? (not sure on the name) but put that on his gums . and re member to brush his teeth
Brush his teeth! Or just give him some food that doesn’t stink.
milk bones help but there are things that do more if his breath is that bad
sounds like your dog needs a dental and then afterwards use natural bones (par boil to get rid of the bacteria but do not cook as they will splinter) to keep them clean..good luck!! smile
The constantly licking of the nose is a sign of nausea in dogs. The fishy smell concerns me as does the pus coming from his mouth. When a dogs breath is ammonia like that is a sign of kidney disease. I’m not sure if this is what you mean by fishy. I know you said there is no ulcers in his mouth but that is also a sign of kidney disease/failure. Is he drinking more than usual and urinating more? If the gums look inflamed and full of tarter than it could be periodontal disease but it sounds worse than that. Sorry but you’re going to have to bring your dog in to the vet. They will be able to tell if it’s gum disease which a teeth cleaning will help, plus he will need to be on antibiotics, or if it’s kidney disease. If it is gum disease, just brushing the teeth won’t help. You need the tarter removed as bacteria can enter through the gum line and can cause heart problems/failure. Hope this helps.
I also have a Pug, and once in awhile his breath is awful. It doesn’t necessarily mean he has an infection. When dogs are outside, some get into everything, so it’s hard telling what he has had in his mouth. Brush his teeth, if he won’t let you, then just put a little doggie toothpaste on his brush and let him chew on it. Also rawhide treats are great for dogs, it helps clean the teeth and massage the gums. There are also ‘breath mint’ treats that you can get him. Wal-Mart sells them and my dogs love them. Also if it has been extremely hot in your area, that can make any dog lethargic. We get that way, why wouldn’t our pets. If you don’t have air conditioning, (that’s the only reason I use mine, for the pets), at least put a fan on high as this will help cool him down a bit. Some ice cubes in his water too. My dogs usually wait until evening when it is cooler before they will eat. Very rarely do they eat during the day when it is really hot outside. These are just suggestions, as I am not a Vet, but I’ve had pets all my life. However, you did not mention how old your Pug is. If he is older, his teeth may be going bad which in that case, yes you do need to contact a Vet for suggestions and/or treatment. Good luck to you and your Pug.
usually bad breath in dogs is a sign that they need their teeth cleaned by the vet. their gums can get infected just like ours and would cause smell, and pain and infection ie: pus. this hurts them just like it would us, so take him to the vet asap.

it’s usually a sign of a bad tooth or teeth, my dog had that problem it was a couple of teeth . need to get it to the vet.
